Visual Simulation of a Mooring System

Umeå universitet

Marinas and single pontoons consists of a floating device secured to the sea bottom by some means. The company Seaflex AB (at Stöcksjö nearby Umeå) manufactures mooring systems for these floating devices, see link.

In a collaboration between the comapny and the university, new physical models and numerical simulation techniques have been developed. These should be combined with state-of-the-art techniques for visual interactive fluids to produce a simulation tool for demonstrations and virtual experiments with the mooring system.

The simulation should include

  • dynamical sea model based on recent research results in interactive graphics
  • real-time rendering of sea, pontoon, mooring system and ships
  • a gui interface for designing demonstrarion scenarios and experiments
  • of objects by computation of bouance forces from the wavy sea surface

Previous experience
Student should have good knowledge from the field visual interactive simulation.
