Background
A mooring system consist
The company
Oryx Simulation
manufacture training simulators for operation of heavy machines,
e.g. harbour cranes, forestry machines, and trucks.
The harbour crane simulators, see
flyer, are now extended to include more complex dynamics,
e.g. a more complex model for the crane cable.
At VRlab, research is done on
rigid body based cable models. The biggest challange is to find stable and efficient simulation
allowing light cables with high tension supporting heavy loads.
Progress made in this resaerch is now ready for
commersialization.
Scope
You will participate in developing a new crane simulator at the
company Oryx Simulation. This
includes implementation of front-line research findings.
The objectives
for
Master’s thesis project
will
be
- An new
crane simulator with unique capabilities in simulating crane
cable
- A new
multibody constraint for modeling complex systems of cables,
pullies and loads.
- A new
model and solver for cables, based on rigid bodies, capable of
simulating cable lifting very heavy loads.
-
Adaptive
level-of-detail of the
cable
The project
will be run at the company Oryx
Simulation in Umeå, in collaboration with Umeå University.
Previous
experience
Student
should have good knowledge from the field visual interactive
simulation or computational physics
in combination with software engineering.
