Q: Where is the osg/observer_ptr which is missing during compilation?

A: observer_ptr was introduced into OpenSceneGraph during february 2006, that is after the official 1.0 release. Therefore, to compile osgHaptics a later version is needed. Either take a nightly build, or checkout the latest from the CVS release.
